The trend: nude lips
This season it's all about barely-there make-up, with celebrities from Chrissy Teigen to Kim Kardashian spotted rocking nude and neutral lips both on and off the red carpet. Don't be fooled by this minimalist look however – it's extremely versatile. Add a slick of clear lipgloss for easy daytime glamour, or channel Kylie Jenner and opt for matte shades for an edgy take on the trend.
Top tip: Pick a shade that matches your lip colour, not your skin as this will help give a more natural-looking finish.
Best matte finish: Ciaté London Liquid Velvet in Wonderland
Liquid lipsticks are sweeping the world of beauty, and can make for an easy way to master the matte look. We're huge fans of Ciaté's Liquid Velvet range, as their creamy moisturising formula not only means that your lips don't dry out, but it also provides a long-lasting finish, perfect if you don't have time to be topping up your make-up.

Best for lip care: Benefit Hydra Smooth Lip Colour in Nice 'n Teasy
Enriched with shea, mango butter and Vitamin E, not only does this Benefit hero leave your lips supple and hydrated, it also has a double-slanted tip that's custom designed to define and fill your pout - perfect if you're always on the go!

Best subtle shimmer: Topshop Lips in Naturist
If you're a beauty addict but don't want to break the bank in your quest to try the latest make-up trends, this pinky nude shade is the one for you. Its formula moisturises and nourishes your lips so not only are you mastering the look, but you'll be keeping your pout healthy too.

The trend: pretty in pink
While pink lipstick used to be about a subtle, almost-nude look, this year it's here to make a statement. Go for a bold shade that pops such as the hot pink tones Brie Larson rocked at the Oscars, or if pastels are your favourite spring shades, try shimmering pale pink hues like Blake Lively for a softer take on the look.
Top tip: Dusty pink shades can highlight dry and chapped lips, so exfoliate before you apply any products. Mix a tablespoon of brown sugar with honey, and then rub the scrub onto your lips. After one minute, wipe off with a damp washcloth and apply a moisturising lip balm.
Best bold shade: MAC Cosmetics lipstick in Full Fuschia
If you're looking to make a statement, this bright, warm pink shade will do the trick – it's also ideal for a night out as the colour doesn't budge, so you don't have to worry about constantly having to reapply the colour. Keep the rest of your make-up minimal to let the colour pop.
£15.50, available at maccosmetics.co.uk
Best neutral shade: Tom Ford Lip Colour in Indian Rose
For a softer look you may want to try neutral shades with pink undertones – we're big fans of this Tom Ford shade for an easy day to night look, not to mention it includes chamomilla flower oil and soja seed extract which contribute to its ultra-creamy texture.
£38, available at selfridges.com
Best pale pink shade: Revlon Super Lustrouse Lipstick in Amethyst Shell
If you're after a subtle pink shimmer but still want something that will pop for a night out, this Revlon shade fits the bill. It has a seriously luscious glossy finish, and leaves lips plumped with instant moisture so you're sure to turn heads with your make-up look.

The trend: dark berry reds
Dark berry hues were a major trend over winter, and they're here to stay. Stars from Adele to Kate Hudson have been spotted seriously upping the beauty stakes on the red carpet with bold shades with burgundy undertones, which can also make for a classic look when paired with winged eyeliner.
Top tip: Make sure you properly prep your lips with a primer, and then use a lip liner to define your pout – you don't want to risk the colour bleeding as this bold shade leaves no room for mistakes.
Best for making a statement: Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Diva Red
Dark berry tones make for a bold look anyway, but we're loving the vivid colour of this Revlon beauty must-have, which also works to keep your lips moisturised. Pair with winged eyeliner for a statement or keep the rest of your make-up matte and minimal to really let the colour pop.
£6.49, available at superdrug.com
Best for a vampy look: Clarins Joli Rouge in Cherry Red
There's nothing like a red lipstick to make you feel instantly glamorous, and this Clarins shade is one of our favourites. With an intense colour and a satin finish, it works well for an evening beauty look – not to mention it moisturises your lips for six hours.
£20, available at clarins.co.uk
Best for pink hues: L'Oréal Paris Exclusive Pinks Collection Color Riche Lipstick in Eva
If you want to try dark berry hues but want a softer finish, try a pink lipstick. Brand ambassador Eva Longoria inspired this particular shade, which has an enriching matte finish, making it easy to take on two of the season's biggest trends in one application. The full range includes pink shades tailored to every skin tone, so you're sure to find the lipstick that works best for you.
