Millions of fans celebrated Adele's triumphant return to the spotlight, but the 27-year-old has admitted that offstage she doesn't always get the same recognition. The singer revealed that when she ditches her trademark winged eyeliner and goes make-up free, she can often go incognito in the street.
Adele admitted she doesn't get recognised when she goes make-up free
"I can't actually do my own hair and make-up, which is a first world problem," she told the Daily Star. "But the good thing about it is no one recognises me when I go to the shops or to the park because it doesn't look like me."
The Hello hitmaker, who is notoriously private when it comes to her personal life, explained that she doesn't "need to go out in disguise", but that people often assume this means she doesn't go out much.
She added: "People think I'm a hermit but it's just because no one recognises me when I go out."
There's no doubt that the Rolling in the Deep singer's winged eyeliner has become an iconic beauty look. Make-up artist Michael Ashton, who regularly works with Adele, shared the secret to recreating the look at home, admitting he used a series of different liners.
The singer is currently on tour for her latest album 25
"I always start by outlining the shape of the liner, working from the inner to outer corner of the eye with a black gel liner," he told The Cut. "I then work the product right into the root of the lashes and then build thickness gradually.
"Once I'm finished creating the desired shape, I use a waterproof liquid liner with a precision tip to intensify and refine the line, finishing by winging the end of the liner last."
It's been a hectic few months for Adele who not only soared back to the top of the charts with single Hello, but has also embarked on a worldwide tour for her latest album 25.
Adele also caused a stir amongst her fans when she revealed during one of her sold-out gigs in London that she will be headlining this year's Glastonbury festival.
"Who's going to Glastonbury this year?" she asked her thousands of fans at the concert at the 02. "See you there. I'll be there. I'll be headlining on the Saturday night this year." The singer admitted that she's "had to keep that secret for years".
