When it comes to eyeshadow, neutral tones of grey and taupe tend to be go-to favourites. But orange is set to become a major trend in eye make-up this season, as Selena Gomez proved at the recent premiere of her new Netflix show 13 Reasons Why. The actress and singer matched her marigold-hued Oscar de la Renta dress with complementing tangerine eyeshadow, which was dabbed on her eyelids and fanned out up to her brow bone.

To try the monochrome make-up trend out for yourself, MUA ambassador and make-up artist Karla Powell suggests carefully preparing the eyelids with a good base. “Apply an eye primer first and then follow it up with eyeshadow base. A white or pale coloured primer will make the eyeshadows appear extremely vibrant,” she told Cover Media. “The best application of the eyeshadow base is with your fingertips, at it helps in easy spreading of the product.”
A brightly coloured eye look is sure to turn heads this summer
Once your primer is in place, then apply a bright orange eyeshadow to the eyelid, before swiping on a lighter shade towards the brow bone. Taking a fluffy eyeshadow brush, proceed to blend the pigments in order to avoid any harsh lines. Orange tends to be flattering on most complexions, with MUA's Burning Embers Eyeshadow Palette containing a range of shades ranging from golden to terracotta.
“Orange is such an easy colour to wear and looks good on all skin tones. Add a little metallic into the orange makes it a bit softer,” added Karla. When wearing a statement eyeshadow, it's best to keep the rest of your make-up neutral, so follow in Selena's footsteps and opt for dewy skin and a simple nude or coral lipstick.
