The colour of your skin changes when you have a tan - a fake tan, we hope! - so you need to adjust your make-up routine accordingly. But how? We spoke to celebrity make-up artist and COLLECTION ambassador Francesca O'Neill to compile a comprehensive guide - read on for our top tips...
Prep right
If your skin has been tanned by the sun, it's more likely to be dehydrated, so you need to make sure your skin is prepped correctly before you begin to apply make-up.

A summer tan should leave your skin bronzed and more even in tone (providing you haven't overdone it!). Applying a heavy foundation will subdue that glow, so just spot-treat any imperfections with concealer and you're good to go!If you feel like you need more coverage, swap your normal foundation for a tinted moisturiser or a great CC Cream - we love the IT Cosmetics version.
Lighten up your eyeshadow
A heavy eyeshadow shade can weigh down your eyelids if you have quite a deep tan. Try to choose a lighter colour such as a pale pink or warm peach to open up the area, complement your glowing skin and awaken the face. Francesca finds that people are often afraid to experiment with pink eyeshadow but in fact, these colours are the most universally flattering. She recommends the new COLLECTION Eyes Uncovered Matt Nude Rose Palette... If you're looking for a more extensive range of colours, we recommend the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette.
Concentrate on the cheeks
Summer skin is all about the glow, and there's no better way to enhance this than by addressing the cheek area. As mentioned, tanned skin can look dry, so remember to moisturise the area before applying the colour. You should also opt for a cream formula, like the Tom Ford Illuminate, to further prevent drying. Apply the highlighter to the high points of the cheeks.
Go bold
With bronze skin, you can easily wear any coloured lipstick such as red, orange or coral. Make your lips the statement of your make-up and keep the rest of the look simple.
