How to rock red eyeshadow just like Demi Lovato

The singer wore the bold beauty trend at the EMAs

When it comes to making a style statement, it's hard to go past a great red dress or bold scarlet lip. But have you thought about wearing it on your eyes? While red used to fall victim to outdated beauty rules, the hue has made a resurgence on the red carpet of late with the likes of Demi Lovato giving it a whirl at the 2017 Europe Music Awards (EMAs).

Once your foundation and base is in place, prepare the eyes with a primer such as Smashbox's Photo Finish 24 Hour Shadow Primer, covering the eyelids and inner corner of the eyes. If you suffer from dark circles, also ensure to dab a little concealer on to even out skin tone. When the primer is dry, choose a vibrant red eyeshadow with matte finish and sweep across the lids.

"Using a blending brush, apply the deep red eyeshadow. I love the rich red called Maneater in Huda Beauty's Textured Shadows Palette – Rose Gold Edition," professional make-up artist at Serenity Beauty and Hair, Nigit Begum, shared. "Don't be afraid to pay extra attention to the eye crease."

Next up, take a small blending brush and work the red pigment in the lower lash line and blend out to the corners of the eye. To really make your eyes sparkle, add a little rose gold eyeshadow over the brow bone and dab onto the inner corners. Huda Beauty's Rose Gold eyeshadow is a brilliant pink with plenty of glitter, while those seeking something subtler should hit their nearest cosmetics counter and check out MAC's Eyeshadow in Expensive Pink, a peach-gold hue, or Laura Mercier's Caviar Stick Eye Color in Rose Gold.

To bring the look together, line with the eyes with an intense black liner, like Estee Lauder's Black Kohl pencil. "Then to complete the look, don't hold back on the mascara. Lancome's Hypnose Mascara is always a top pick if you're seeking dramatic lashes, as is Armani Beauty's Maestro Mascara," said Nigit.
