A lot has been said about the Duchess of Sussex’s makeup on her wedding day when she married Prince Harry in front of close friends, family, royal and, y’know, millions of people watching on their TVs. One person who also watched Meghan Markle say ‘I do’ was her former makeup artist Lydia Sellers. The celebrity makeup maestro worked with Meghan from 2015 until 2017 while she was working on her TV show, Suits. After meeting through a publicist friend, Lydia went on to do Meghan’s makeup and worked collaboratively with the star to create the look she wanted.

“Meghan is the type of girl with many talents,” she told HELLO! “She is someone that is ‘in the know’ when it comes to products, tips, tricks, and trends. Working with her was always a collaborative effort.”  She continued: “Meghan is very self-assured when it comes to what she likes in a beauty routine and our time together very rarely ventured too far from her classic makeup look.”

LOVED IT: Meghan Markle's wedding hair and makeup was even more gorgeous than we predicted

Ah, the classic beauty look - the same we saw when she married her Prince. Meghan wore a natural look for her wedding day, but you can’t deny that her fluttery lashes looked incredible. Every time she glanced at her husband, we were jealous of her jet black lashes. Luckily Lydia knows what Meghan’s favourite mascara is because Meghan even raved about it to her!

“Meghan actually introduced me to a drugstore mascara, Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara. I keep it stocked in my kit now at all times thanks to her! This mascara really helps to amplify your lashes and polish off the entire look. It's great for full volume and lengthening, the formula is super hydrating. I love how it builds, and that the price point is accessible for all budgets.”

So there you have it, Meghan's favourite mascara costs just £8.99 and you can get it in Boots. One online review said: “Great black colour, never flakes or smudges under eye. It’s especially good if you do a really thin light layer first to separate lashes then let it half dry and do second coat.”

In terms of Meghan’s favourite look, Lydia tells HELLO!: “Meghan favours a less-is-more approach to beauty; fresh, dewy skin to show off her natural tone and freckles; thick, lush lashes; a hint of colour on the lips. At night we'd amp it up with a sultry, slightly darker smoky eye or sometimes a bold pop of colour on her lips. She is a very classic, subdued glam kind of gal, which I truly admire."

Who needs sunglasses when your lashes look so good?

Meghan’s freckles are a big talking point - especially after the wedding. She once said she always asks makeup artists to let her freckles show, so what did Lydia actually use on her? “I used Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (a mixture of shade 6.25 with drop of 5.5 for depth), with a drop of Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow Primermixed in - this creates a pearlescent, healthy glow that looks like it's coming from within. I went in with a damp Beauty Blender Sponge to sheer it out, and ensure Meghan's freckles were popping!”

So, come on Lydia, what other beauty brands are in Meghan’s makeup bag? “Meghan loves a highlighter from RMS, a Kohl Eyeliner pencil she consistently uses from MAC, and a face cream by LaMer.”

Lastly, we couldn’t resist asking Lydia what she thought of Meghan’s wedding day look, created by Daniel Martin. “Classic, timeless, and glowing – a true romance to her look.”

She continued: “This look is all about the skin taking center stage. It's a look Meghan feels the most natural and authentic in. Dewy skin and freckles with a glowing flushed cheek. Her eyebrows perfectly defined and her eyes amplified with earthy tones. Volume in the lash with layered mascara. All balanced with a subtle, nude lip.  Subdued, elegant glamour at its finest.”
