Nina Dobrev's Teen Choice Awards red lipstick was inspired by THIS Hollywood icon

This look will NEVER go out of style

August 14, 2018

Although beauty trends come and go, there are certain classic looks that never go out of style. Think of the laidback and bronzed California vibe rocked by everyone from Farah Fawcett to Jennifer Aniston, or the classic Hollywood glamour still inspiring stars like Lana Del Rey today. And it's the latter that The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev chose for the 2018 Teen Choice Awards, opting for a classic red lipstick look that paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe. The 29-year-old sported subtle shimmering eyelids, natural dewy-looking skin and a bold, pillarbox red lip for a look that harked back to Hollywood's golden era but that still felt fresh and modern.

Marilyn's look still inspires many MUAs today

Nina's makeup artist Georgie Eisdell explained to lifestyle website Byrdie: "I wanted Nina's look for the Teen Choice Awards to be super cool and effortless. I went for a strong lip and gorgeous, clean, dewy skin to achieve a natural effortless glam. I always love a classic Marilyn Monroe moment, and Nina looks so great with a red lip. The most important thing to me is that Nina feels confident when she walks out the door."

Georgie also revealed to the website the Lancome products that she used to create the look, which included Teint Idole Ultra Wear Liquid Foundation in 220, Blush Subtil Palette in New Nude on the cheeks and the Ombre Hypnose Stylo cream eyeshadow in Inoubliable on the eyelids. To create that classic pout, she prepped the lips with Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm Honey-in-Rose before adding Lip Kajal in Bold Red to get that pop of colour.

This look is so easy to recreate at home

Nina isn't the only celeb to find inspiration in Marilyn's classic look recently. Back in June, Holy Willoughby channelled the icon in a 1950's-style halter neck dress from Oasis, with a full skirt and flowery print – a dead ringer for the frocks sported by the star in her heyday.
