It's usually her older sister making the headlines. But last week Monica Cruz, younger sister of Hollywood actress Penelope, took centre stage when she excitingly revealed news of her pregnancy.
What really got people talking though was the 35-year-old's frank admission that she had turned to an anonymous donor to fulfill her dreams of starting a family.Model Monica spoke openly about her pregnancy on her web-based blog for Spanish newspaper El Pais. Fearing that if she waited to meet her perfect partner it would be "too late for motherhood", the single star sought help through artificial insemination and said she had decided to speak publically about that decision to avoid questions about her baby's father. "I am going to be a mother! I have managed to fulfill the dream of a lifetime," she wrote. "Because of that I want to share with all of you this special journey and to be able to tell you about all my experiences during this fascinating time."
Monica revealed that during her first few months of pregnancy, she "isolated" herself from the world. It was, she said, her way of dealing with the questions that would inevitably follow. "I wanted to avoid, above all, that they spoke about possible fathers, or the possible candidates to be it," she said. But later, Monica disclosed that she felt "uneasy" about hiding the manner of the conception which she believed she was helping make a taboo subject. "So I have decided to tell all. To become pregnant, I turned to artificial insemination. "I want to tell also so I can have the opportunity to show my thanks to all those anonymous men that give many women like me, the dream of their lives. "And she offered help to women who find themselves in a similar position, adding: "If with this I can help others who have doubts, then here you have me if you need me".What do you think about Monica's revelation?
