Busy Philipps defends her newborn daughter's name

July 11, 2013

Busy Philipps has defended naming her newborn daughter Cricket Pearl Silverstein.

The actress has not officially announced her baby's name yet but a source close to Busy told E! News newborn is called Cricket Pearl.

Busy and her husband Marc Silverstein, who already have four-year-old daughter Birdie, welcomed Cricket a week ago on 2 July and have since come under fire for giving their children unconventional monikers.

"It's weird people think my kids will be in therapy because of their names," tweeted Busy in response to her critics.

"Guys, my kids will be in therapy for LOTS of reasons, I'm sure" she joked.

But along with the harsh comments, Busy and Marc have also received positive messages from their fans.

"Thank you all for the warm wishes for our new little ladybug!" Busy added.

"It's been so sweet to read them all!!"

Dawson's Creek actress Busy has been keeping her fans updated on her baby's progress via her Twitter account.

Busy announced that she was expecting a baby in December 2012 by posting a photograph of her positive pregnancy test and later revealed that she had given birth with a cute black and white photo.

"So this happened" tweeted Busy last week, along with the snapshot of newborn Cricket wrapped in a blanket and sporting a beanie hat.

In the days following Cricket's arrival a spokesperson for Busy and Marc made an official announcement about the birth.

"I can confirm she gave birth to a baby girl on July 2 who weighed 8.5 pounds," read the statement.

"Everyone is healthy and happy."

Busy has also spoken out about her own unusual name.

Christened Elizabeth Philipps by her parents, the actress claimed Busy was just a nickname that stuck.

Busy and Marc married in 2007 and welcomed daughter Birdie Leigh on 13 August 2013.
