Cradling her blossoming baby bump and gazing lovingly at her husband by her side, Kate Winslet was the picture of happiness this week. The pregnant Oscar-winner was seen making her way through Heathrow Airport hand-in-hand with Ned Rocknroll enroute to Toronto for the International Film Festival. And, of course, she had some very precious cargo on board - her unborn child.
Kate, 37, and Ned confirmed they were expecting their first baby together in June, with a spokesperson revealing that the new arrival is due at the end of the year.
While it will be Ned's first experience of fatherhood, his wife is already a mother to two children; Mia, 12, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton, and son Joe, nine, from her second to Sam Mendes.
The happy parents-to-be were married in December 2012 after a whirlwind romance. Kate met Ned — who was born Ned Abel Smith before legally changing his name — while on holiday on Richard Branson's Necker Island. Ned is the nephew of the Virgin mogul and works on the space travel branch of the Virgin empire.
While she is one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Reading-born Kate has said having children taught her to have an "abiding inner strength". And she has said that she works hard to raise her children to be respectful of others. "I always want them to be regular kids who are grateful and respectful of other human beings," she said in an interview with Harpers Bazaar in March. "I want them to know that when we fly first-class, that they are lucky. "The highest compliment I could ever receive about my kids — and I can say that this does happen frequently — is when the in-flight crew say to me, 'Your children are wonderful. They are so well-behaved.' Every time I am told that, I could weep. "Kate is set to join a host of stars in Toronto, with Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Jude Law, Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe and Reese Witherspoon among those expected to attend.
