Shakira introduces baby Sasha Piqué Mebarak

February 6, 2015

Ever since Shakira announced the arrival of her new baby boy, celebrity fans have been waiting to see his little face. On Thursday, they finally got their wish when one-week-old son Sasha Piqué Mebarak made his public debut. His mum introduced the little cutie to the world on the Unicef World Baby Shower website, which aims to help poverty-stricken people around the world. The Hips Don’t Lie singer, who turned 38 days after welcoming her second son in Barcelona on 29 January, posted a close-up of her newborn – whose brunette locks seem to have been styled into the same quiff worn by his Barcelona FC player dad Gerard Piqué.

She tweeted: "We'd like to introduce you to Sasha Piqué Mebarak - to meet him go to worldbabyshower.org". When fans clicked on the link to the Unicef site they were treated to the very first picture of Sasha, along with a previously-seen picture of Shakira and Gerard when the Colombian pop princess was pregnant. The website reads: "Welcome to Shakira and Gerard Piqué's World Baby Shower with UNICEF. It goes on to encourage readers to donate for the good cause: "With the purchase of an Inspired Gift you can save thousands of lives and give babies a healthy start in life." "This is more than a shower, it's a global movement to save lives. You can be part of it by buying a UNICEF Inspired Gift." The official introduction to Shak and Gerard’s new bundle of joy comes a day after she revealed a glimpse of the tiny tot's left foot on Instagram, which showed Sasha's tiny little pink toes and the white hospital band still wrapped around his ankle.

The singer wrote alongside the snap: "I have Daddy's feet, it looks like I've been playing football my whole life", in English and in her mother tongue, Spanish. Sasha's name is understood to be of Greek and Russian descent and means "Warrior" and "Defendant of mankind." The singer welcomed her second son with Gerard into the world last Thursday night at a hospital in Barcelona, where she underwent a scheduled Caesarean section.
