Carey Mulligan back on red carpet after 'welcoming first child'

October 7, 2015

Carey Mulligan returned to the red carpet on Wednesday just weeks after reportedly welcoming her first child. The 30-year-old was glowing as she joined her Suffragette co-stars at the opening of the 59th BFI London Film Festival at The Lanesborough Hotel.

Wearing a patterned sweatshirt with a contrasting print knee length skirt, the star looked effortlessly stylish and showed no sign of sleepless nights. Although Carey and her musician husband Marcus Mumford are yet to confirm their baby news, the actress is believed to have given birth in September.

Carey Mulligan reportedly welcomed her first child in September

"Carey has given birth to a healthy and happy baby," a source told E! News. "She is just enjoying this time with her family and close friends."

The actress was said to have missed the world premiere of her critically-acclaimed film in Telluride at the beginning of September because she was due to give birth any day.

Carey never announced her pregnancy news, instead choosing to hide her growing baby bump in trapeze dresses and loose clothing for her public appearances. She made her last red carpet appearance in a striking oxblood Balenciaga gown at the Tony Awards in June, around the time that her pregnancy news came to light.

Carey has been married to Marcus Mumford since 2012

A Broadway source told Us Weekly at the time: "They weren't planning on announcing, but she hasn't stopped working. Everybody around her is being very supportive. The show ends soon and they're going back to England after."

The news comes just months after Carey confirmed she was ready to start a family with the Mumford and Sons rocker, telling The Mirror: "Yeah, definitely. But I don't think you can ever be worried about your career when it comes to stuff like that. You've got to have some perspective."
