Wayne Rooney was every bit the proud father as he shared the very first photo of his newborn son Kit on Monday. The footballer uploaded a sweet snapshot of the tiny baby boy, just a few minutes after he was born. "Meeting Kit for the first time. Home time now," the 30-year-old captioned the Instagram image.Wayne and his wife Coleen Rooney welcomed their third child into the world on Sunday. They both took to Twitter to announce the happy news. "Our gorgeous little boy arrived today. Kit Joseph Rooney. 8lbs 1oz. we are over the moon."

The couple are parents to two other boys – Kai, six, and two-year-old Klay – and decided to continue to tradition of giving their children a name beginning with the letter K.The Rooneys have been excitedly awaiting the arrival of their child. On Thursday, footballer Wayne shared a throwback family photo, writing: "#TBT - Family picture after Klay was born. Not long left until the new addition is here! #Family." And last week, his wife tweeted to fans: "No baby yet!!!... Hurry up!!! Too comfy", alongside heart and baby emojis.

Wayne and 29-year-old Coleen, who have been together since they were 16, revealed their baby news back in July with simultaneous Twitter posts. "Baby number 3 is on the way…. January!! We are so happy and excited," Coleen told her 1.2 million followers, while Wayne wrote:"“Delighted that me and @coleenroo have our third child on the way. "Childhood sweethearts Wayne and Coleen were married on 12 June 2008 in a lavish ceremony in Portofino, Italy. They welcomed their first child Kai in November 2009, followed by little Klay on 21 May 2013.
