Congratulations to Andy Murray and his wife Kim! The couple have become parents for the first time following the birth of their daughter on Sunday morning, Andy's agent confirmed. A statement was released, announcing that "the family are doing well".

Andy and Kim, both 28, are no doubt thrilled to welcome their little bundle of joy. The baby's arrival comes almost a year after the pair tied the knot in Andy's hometown of Dunblane last April.

Kim Sears and Andy Murray have reportedly welcomed a baby girl

Shortly before the birth Andy, who is currently ranked World No. 2, competed in the Australian Open. The devoted husband said he would quit the competition if Kim went into premature labour, and fly back halfway across the world to be at his wife's side.

"I'd be way more disappointed winning the Australian Open and not being at the birth of the child," Andy said in January at Perth's Hopman Cup event.

Luckily, the Scotsman didn't have to make a speedy return as Kim gave birth in February as predicted. The couple had spent the lead-up to the birth together, with Andy flying back home as soon as the Australian Open finished.

The couple tied the knot in April

On the prospect of becoming a father, Andy previously told Daily Mail: "It's going to be life changing when the baby comes but I am excited about that. People have asked 'Do you think it will be a distraction?' It might be but it's a good distraction.

"It's actually not good to be just concentrating on tennis and your training all of the time. It is important to be able to take a step back from it and, when you finish on the practice court, be able to just go away and be with your friends and family, so I'm looking forward to it."

Naturally, Andy and Kim aren't the only ones who are excited about their new arrival. Last year Andy's mum Judy Murray told HELLO! Online that she couldn't be happier about becoming a grandmother in 2016.

"It's my first time and I am very excited, I will take to it well," said Judy. "My mum was an active granny to Jamie and Andy and also to my twin nieces so I would hope to be as good a granny as she is."

In her more recent interview with HELLO! magazine, the new grandmother revealed she plans to cut back on her tennis coaching work to spend time with her first grandchild.

"As you get older, you realise that life is short and so I’ve decided that it’s time for me to slow down," she said. "I’ve been away so much that I’ve missed out on family occasions and children, such as my 13-year-old nieces Elsa and Cora, growing up, and I'm actually looking forward to cutting back on my work and spending more time with my parents, and yes, the new baby."
