Cat Deeley has revealed the dilemma she and her husband Patrick Kielty went through to name their son Milo. The So You Think You Can Dance host admitted that she and her husband disagreed so much that they didn't have a baby name for a week.
"We weren't talking to each other," said Cat during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! "It was awful, it was just horrific. Because everyone says, 'Oh, when you see them, you'll know.' We didn't know!"
"And then my mum came in as the peacemaker – a bit of a Neville Chamberlain – and she [demanded we name the baby by the next day]."
"We weren't talking to each other," said Cat. "It was awful"
Cat, 39, added: "[My mum] asked, 'Well, what would you have called her if [it] was a girl?' and I said 'Milo.' And she said, 'Where did you get that from?' and I said, An American in Paris. Gene Kelly, he has an art-dealer friend and she's called Milo."
"And [Patrick] says, 'Milo? That's a guy's name,' and [my mum] goes, 'Yes, as in 'Venus de'. So she said, 'Why not call him Milo? Milo's a boy's name. What do you think?' So we did all the looking up on the Internet, and he's an Olympian god/hero who saves somebody – it's all very nice."
The presenter and her husband agreed on the name Milo
It took about a week for Cat and her husband Patrick, 45, to reach an agreement.
"We did fall out a little bit over the name," said the presenter. "It got to the stage where we were leaving the hospital – I was crying, I was hormonal, there was a whole thing. Still, he wouldn't buckle."
"I like quite simple names. I actually like 'James,'" said Cat, gesturing towards Jimmy. "He likes things that are a little bit more out there – he actually loves 'Val' – but my thing is he's gotta have a full name in case he [becomes] a lawyer or a doctor."
"I was crying, I was hormonal, there was a whole thing," said Cat
Laughing, the new mum added: "It was a lot of pressure for us, seriously. I thought my husband was gonna have to file divorce papers… 'Baby Deeley, breastfed,' was all it said on his little [hospital] name tag, poor thing."
Cat and Patrick welcomed their baby boy in January but the pretty presenter didn't reveal her son's name until six months after the birth. Even then Cat found a subtle way to reveal Milo's adorable moniker – by wearing a necklace that bore his name.
