The champion swimmer shared the exciting news with fans via social media. Kayla shared her own version of the couple's underwater photoshoot, writing: "Just when you think you think you have it all figured out, life always surprises you with blessings when least expect it. So excited to share this news with all of you!" The couple began dating at the beginning of 2016, and announced their engagement back in October by posting a snap of Kayla kissing her fiancé while she shows off a beautiful diamond ring. At the time, Kayla wrote: "Speechless. Absolutely beautiful. So in love with YOU," while Ryan added: "Memories forever!!! #thelochtes #LA."
The pair announced their engagement in October
Ryan was in the centre of controversy back in August after he and three of his team mates told authorities that they were threatened at gunpoint while in Rio for the Olympics, an allegation which later turned out to be untrue. He spoke about how he knew Kayla was the one after she supported him through the scandal. He told USA Today Sports: "My family says, 'Don't you think it's a little too soon?' I'm like, 'Can you put a time on love? Can you?' I realised this was 'the one' when she stuck behind me through this. She still loves me and she's still right there with me."
