The One Show presenter Alex Jones has given birth to a baby boy. Alex, 39, announced the happy news live on the BBC show via a phone call on Thursday evening. It is her first baby with husband Charlie Thomson, and he was born in the morning of Sunday 22 January, weighing 7lbs 11oz.

Alex said that both she and Charlie have been in "heaven" following the arrival of their baby boy, adding that motherhood was a "wonderful feeling".

She said: "Our beautiful healthy little baby boy was born on Sunday. We are absolutely delighted and completely in love with him. It's the most wonderful feeling.
"He was 7lbs 11oz – a lovely weight. It was all very straightforward. Charlie was with me and mum and dad were in the waiting room.
"The last four days have been heaven. We're in this bubble the three of us. It's just the best time."
The Welsh TV star also called on viewers to help suggest potential names for her newborn. "We're a bit behind on the whole name thing because we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl," she said. "We thought, 'When we see him we'll know what he looks like', but actually it's really hard.

"Every time we ask viewers they come up with the goods, so what better way than to ask the viewers for some suggestions."
Alex then went on to thank all those who sent in gifts for the baby during her pregnancy, adding that her son has "the best collection of cardigans and blankets ever".
Alex announced her pregnancy in September, months after she admitted at a fertility conference that she feared she had left it too late to conceive.

Just last week, she shared a baby bump photo with fans on Instagram, admitting that she was "shocked" by the size of her tummy. "Just caught my reflection whilst making some rice! Wow!" she wrote. "I'm shocked even though I've grown it myself. Still not fed up of bump though. I think I'll miss it when the time comes. #countdownison #nearlyreadytopop #pregnancy #hugeandproud."
Alex has also confirmed her son's arrival on social media, sharing a photo of some congratulatory cards along with the caption: "So happy to let you know that our beautiful baby boy was born on Sunday morning weighing 7lbs11 and with a full head of dark hair.
"Charlie and I are head over heels in love. A special thank you to the amazing midwives in the Queen Charlotte hospital for everything you did for us. We are so excited and grateful to be in the parent club."
