Alex Jones has revealed she is happy to be home after ending her week presenting The One Show. Taking to her Instagram page on Wednesday evening to share a picture, the new mother confessed she was "close to tears" as she was reunited with baby son Teddy. "Back at home after my longest week of work since Teddy arrived," she wrote. "It was great to dip my toe back in, but I'm so relieved and grateful to have the rest of the week with Ted. He's now asleep in my arms and I could cry I'm so happy!!"

The 40-year-old, who welcomed her first child Teddy - full name Edward Alan Burrell Thomson - with husband Charlie Thomson at the start of the year, joined co-host Matt Baker as she made a return to The One Show's sofa this week. The pair were up to their unusual on-screen antics but it was evident that Alex was missing her child. After her first show, she thanked fans for their well-wishes. "Absolutely overwhelmed by your messages tonight. A heatfelt thank you. Lovely to be back on the sofa but itching to see little Ted now," she said.

Despite relishing motherhood, Alex returned to her job after taking a three and a half month maternity break. The star spoke to The One Show shortly after giving birth. "It's the most wonderful feeling," she told viewers. "He was 7lbs 11oz – a lovely weight. It was all very straightforward. Charlie was with me and mum and dad were in the waiting room." She added: "The last four days have been heaven. We're in this bubble the three of us. It's just the best time. We're a bit behind on the whole name thing because we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl. We thought, 'When we see him we'll know what he looks like', but actually it's really hard."
