We may still be in September, but with 90 days until Christmas, many parents are being extra prepared and starting shopping for gifts early. And John Lewis is giving them a helping hand by revealing what are set to be the top ten toys this Christmas – but they don't come cheap! The top four gifts cost over £100 each, with this year's most popular toy – Cozmo Robot – costing a budget-stretching £199.99.

STORY: Santa Claus comes to Selfridges - in August!

John Lewis' toy expert Harry Boughton told the Daily Mail: "This year we're expecting to see a rise in the demand for toys that combine learning with fun and play. As technology continues to improve our day-to-day lives with the rise of smart home devices, tech toys have also seen a rise in popularity, and they're set to be the biggest trend this Christmas."

1. The Cozmo Robot, £199.99

It may be pricey, but this robot toy is expected to be the number one seller this Christmas. This game-playing robot develops his personality the more you play with him, with more games and upgrades unlocked over time. With the promise to help children to learn to code as they play with Cozmo, it's a toy that is both educational and fun.

2. LEGO Boost, £149.99

This unique five-in-one model from LEGO also helps children to develop their coding skills, with a free app and all the pieces to build five different creations – including a robot, a guitar, and even an interactive cat. The set includes over 840 LEGO pieces, an encoded motor and colour and distance sensor.

3. FurReal Roarin' Tyler the Playful Tiger, £134.99

Animal lovers will be obsessed with this fluffy tiger cub, which will interact with the family and become like your very own pet tiger. Make noise and he will roar back or stroke his ears and his head might move, with over 100 sound and motion combinations, you never know what he'll do next.

4. John Lewis Leckford House Wooden Doll's House, £100

For a more traditional Christmas gift, this wooden doll's house is sure to prove popular. The house opens from either side and has a detachable roof, too, making it easy for two children to play at once. And we can see this being passed down the family from one generation to the next.

5. LEGO Winter Holiday Train, £74.99

This Winter Holiday Train Set is the second LEGO kit to make the top five. Sold exclusively at John Lewis, this train features a green train, a boarding platform, Christmas tree and gifts, which need to be delivered in time for the festive season.

6. FurReal Proto Max Interactive Pup, £89.99

Coding is one of the biggest toy trends this Christmas, and this innovative Proto Max allows you to create your very own pet puppy's personality via an app. Proto Max has over 400 sounds, more than 100 eye animations and 360 degree motion, so you can customise everything it does.

7. Mini Micro Deluxe Scooter, £79.99

Scooters are a firm favourite among little ones, and this Mini Micro Deluxe Scooter is set to be no exception. The adjustable handlebar means it will continue to grow with your child, from two to five years, while the triple-wheeled design offers more stability and balance.

8. Meccano Robot M.A.X, £139.97

Another robot to make the list, this Meccano toy is interactive and will remember what you talked about, and interact with speech and facial expressions. Unlike the other robots, you can construct this one yourself, helping children to learn valuable creative and coding skills.

9. John Lewis Wooden Cash Register, £20

Among all the gadgets and tech gifts, it's good to see this wooden cash register make the top ten! This till has a pretend scanner, till roll, chip and pin reader, John Lewis credit card and coins, which will provide children with hours of fun.

10. John Lewis Wooden Pirate Ship, £40

Another traditional toy that's expected to feature on many children's letters to Santa is this wooden pirate ship, complete with skull and cross bone print sails, a rope ladder and a watchtower.
