Amir Khan and his pregnant wife Faryal Makhdoom put on a loved-up display as they walked the red carpet together on Sunday night. Faryal, who is expecting her second child, showed off her growing baby bump in black high-waisted trousers and a patterned silk blouse. The 26-year-old model sported a healthy pregnancy glow as she joined her husband at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.
The couple were making their first high-profile appearance together since reconciling in November. Amir, 31, and Faryal had briefly split over the summer, with the boxer accusing fellow sports star Anthony Joshua of having an affair with his wife. He later withdrew the claims and it seems his marriage is back on track.
Amir and Faryal have a daughter, Lamaisah
The couple joined other A-lister attendees on the night, among them Rebecca Adlington and her friend Mark Foster, Tom Daley and Jessica Ennis-Hill. Mo Farah, who appeared via a video link, was thrilled to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year. "I didn't see this coming, I thought I wasn't going to win it," Mo later said on BBC Radio 5 Live. "You look at this year and Jonnie Peacock, Anthony Joshua, Lewis Hamilton, it's been incredible."
After the awards, Amir took to Twitter and Instagram to write: "Had a great time at the #bbcsportspersonality2017 in Liverpool." The boxer is now back at home, having spent the past three weeks Down Under for I'm a Celebrity. On the show, Amir opened up about his troubled marriage and admitted he "did wrong". Speaking to fellow campmate Iain Lee, the father-of-one said he vowed to be a "better husband". "I was messing around a lot," he confessed. "I used to live a young bachelor's life, but this has made me realise I need to live a family life."
The boxer celebrated his birthday over the weekend
Amir will perhaps be most remembered for his 'strawberry-gate' on the show, when he and Iain scoffed a bowl of strawberries and cream that they had won after a challenge; the duo were meant to share the prize with their fellow campmates. Amir's wife and family poked fun at the incident, throwing him a strawberry-themed birthday party on the weekend. The professional sportsman posted a photo on Instagram with his wife, and revealed: "Family surprised me with a jungle party/birthday party. Here’s a pic of me and @faryalmakhdoom. (Don’t eat my strawberries) thanks @newdhanakdeira amazing place."
