Alex Jones is getting real about motherhood. The TV star, who is publishing her first parenting book later this week, has revealed that the first few weeks after welcoming baby Ted were "pretty hellish". She took to Twitter to tell fans about her new book, Winging it!, and confessed that she may have overshared. When one new mum said she wished she'd been told everything "warts and all", Alex replied: "The first few weeks are pretty hellish to be fair, but week 6 it felt a lot better. The book talks about the whole of the first year. Postpartum stuff/relationship stuff... all the grim bits as well as the good stuff so could be ideal for you. At least we're all in it together x."

It's a big week for Alex, who welcomed her first child Ted with husband Charlie Thomson in January 2017; the presenter of The One Show is releasing her book on Thursday. She tweeted: "Anxious that I may have over shared in the book. That's what writing it on little sleep whilst caring for a small human will do... it's honest if nothing else!"

The 41-year-old mum started writing her book last year when she was on maternity leave. She only took three months off work – balancing motherhood with presenting her BBC One show and penning her survival guide for new mums. Alex has explained that Winging it! is aimed for older parents-to-be and that it details her own experience as well as those of other mums and dads who sent in their stories.

In the lead-up to publication week, Alex also revealed that she had received the first printed copies of her book, which features herself and baby Ted on the cover. She wrote on Instagram: "They're back from the printers and I have five signed copies to give away. Just post a picture that sums up your parenting experience, good or bad, tag me and include the hashtag #ImWingingItToo – I can't wait to see them! The best/funniest five will be contacted on 9th April by @lagombooks."
