Nicole Richie is a proud mum to two children, but has made the decision to keep them both out of the spotlight. Fans were delighted then to catch a very rare glimpse of 12-year-old Harlow in a snapshot shared by Sofia Richie, Nicole's half-sister.

In the photo, the trio pose for a selfie together, with Harlow sat to the right of her mum. Fans were blown away by the incredible resemblance between mother and daughter – from their matching curls to their almond eyes.

Many others also commented on the remarkable similarities between Nicole and Sofia – despite the fact they are not biologically related.

Nicole, 39, was legally adopted by singer Lionel Richie and his wife Brenda Harvey when she was nine years old. She had lived with them since she was three, when her biological parents realised they could not afford to provide for her.
Sofia Richie shared a rare photo of Nicole and her daughter Harlow
Sofia, meanwhile, is Lionel's second child with his second wife, Diane Alexander. She also has an older brother, Miles.
Nicole shares her two children with Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden. The couple started dating in December 2006, and welcomed Harlow in January 2008. Their son Sparrow, now 11, was born in September 2009. The following December, Nicole and Joel were married in a magical winter wedding ceremony.

Just last month, Joel shared a throwback photo of his son in celebration of his birthday. The image showed Sparrow sat on his dad's shoulders with a city view in the background.

Joel, 41, wrote: "Happy 11th Birthday to my baby boy! I love you Sparrow. Here's to many more years of being best friends and me embarrassing you!"

Among those to comment on the sweet post was Joel's identical twin brother, Benji Madden – who shares baby daughter Raddix with Cameron Diaz.
