After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the exciting news that they are expecting their second child, one question immediately comes to mind: what will they name the royal baby?

Several girls and boys monikers were quickly pegged as frontrunners, despite the fact that Meghan told Oprah Winfrey her due date is still months away in the summer - and we now know the couple are expecting a baby girl.

Shortly after they revealed their pregnancy, Alexandra was marked as a favourite with bookmaker Ladbrokes revealing odds of 4-1. This was based on the fact the couple may choose another name beginning with the letter A, after the birth of their son Archie Harrison.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie named her first child after a close family member, choosing the middle name Philip after the Duke of Edinburgh – and the same could be true of Harry and Meghan.

Elizabeth is a potential option, after the Duke's grandmother the Queen, while many believe the couple could choose the name Diana after Harry's late mother, the Princess of Wales.

Bookies Coral, Betfair and OddsMonkey also placed Diana as the most popular girls name. According to OddsMonkey, Diana has odds of 10/1, while Allegra, Isabella, Alice and Abigail are favoured girls names.

Spokesman Peter Watton said: "It was only last month that we saw Diana at 10/1 to be the name of Harry and Meghan's second child, currently the odds are 4/1 meaning the bookmakers think the name of Harry's late mother is looking increasingly likely.

"Allegra remains a contender at 11/1 as it is reported the late Princess Diana favoured the name to use the moniker if she ever had a daughter of her own.

"There is also Oprah as a selection at 50/1 which surely is a massive outside choice influenced by the recent media coverage of the interview to be shown on ITV."

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead also said: "The names of both of their parents that are the favourites in the betting for the name of the new arrival," before adding: "Alice and Emma are two outside picks for girls’ names."

Betfair revealed Meghan's mother Doria Ragland could inspire the baby's name, with odds of 25-1.

In February, Betfair's Sam Rosbottom said: "Having picked Archie - a name that wasn’t even on our list, for their first child - the odds suggest Meghan & Prince Harry could opt for a more traditional name for their second."

Of course, the favoured names could all change leading up to the birth.

And when it comes to the Duchess' due date? Sam added: "July 2021 is the favourite month for the birth in the betting so far."
