The newborn attachment means you can use it from birth, while it can hold up to 110kg, so children can use it as a normal chair when they're older and even as adults. But there's also a more emotive reason behind the design.

Peter Opsvik, designer of the Norwegian brand, wanted to create one chair that could comfortably seat all ages at the same table.

By reducing the height difference between small children and their parents and allowing them to sit together at eye level, families would find it easier to interact, making life around the dinner table more enjoyable.
Bonding between parent and child was at the forefront of his mind – no wonder it has cult status.
In celebration of the chair's 50th anniversary, Stokke has created 18,000 limited-edition ash chairs in white and mixed colourways which each have their own number and a laser-engraved anniversary logo.
