Ginger Zee's plans to take a few days off Good Morning America to spend with her sons for spring break didn't go as planned.
The meteorologist was in Illinois covering the influx of storms that have been affecting the Midwest over the past week, reporting from Chicago earlier in the week.
She shared on social media that she had taken a couple days off work to spend the remaining days of spring break with her kids Adrian, seven, and Miles, five.
However, in a cruel twist of irony, she had been left stranded at Chicago's O'Hare airport thanks to the storms and was unable to get home on time.

Ginger posted a video while she was still stuck at the airport, waiting for a flight that had been delayed by nearly eight hours.
"I promised the kids I would get back tonight because it is their spring break," she said. "We're not doing anything but spending time together. I just wanna get home and be with those babies, but the airports are struggling with these severe storms so I get that."

It got to the point that one of her flights was canceled and she was rebooked on another, and after a long day of trying to find her way home, she was finally able to reunite with husband Ben Aaron and their sons.
She wrote before getting home: "We are safe and healthy and I am grateful — but man I really hope I get back to spend two days with the kids for their spring break that I took off!

"7 hours of delays and a cancellation so far — cross your fingers for me! These travel delays from the storms are next level. Stay safe everyone."
On her Instagram Stories early Thursday morning, she finally stated: "After two canceled flights and eight hours of delays…I'm home!"
One of the meteorologist's followers asked why she didn't fly private despite working for "one of the largest news companies ever," although Ginger immediately responded that her choice was "always commercial." She also responded to several other fan questions regarding the delays and inclement weather conditions.
