Fern Britton took to Instagram to share the upsetting news that her youngest daughter has left home, leaving the This Morning presenter with a case of empty nest syndrome.

Fern has four children; twin sons Jack and Harry, 29, Grace, 26, and Winnie, 21, who is the last to leave Fern's home in Cornwall. Taking to Twitter, Fern shared an honest account of her youngest child flying the nest, and it struck a chord with her followers.

Referring to living with partners as well as her children, Fern wrote: "After 36 years of shared living I finally waved au revoir to my youngest as she flew the nest."

Explaining that it had been a week of highs and lows, Fern wrote: "First week of solo living completed. Yes, there were moments of 'it's so quiet [sad emoji],' to ‘it's so quiet [happy emoji].

"Overall, not to be feared," she concluded, with her fans quick to reassure the presenter that all would be well. "It's a tough one and all part of them growing up and becoming independent, but it certainly pulls on your hearts strings! I'm sure in time you will adjust and every visit will be cherished. Take care, enjoy your me time," one commented.

"It's a strange feeling, but mostly feeling like you've done a great job! I hope you're okay," another wrote.

The 65-year-old moved down to Cornwall following her split from her ex-husband Phil Vickery in 2020. He remained in their Buckinghamshire home, while Fern moved to the coast to their holiday home.
