Kim Kardashian is known for her luxury A-list beauty regime, reportedly spending a staggering $2,175 weekly in order to maintain her flawless skin, luscious long lashes and brunette tresses. But in the latest episode of Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kim – who is pregnant with husband Kanye West’s baby – took her beauty regime to the next extreme when she opted to test a new procedure known as the vampire facial.
The skincare treatment, which costs around £600, initially involved drawing blood from Kim's arm. Then, the plasma was extracted from the blood and injected back into her face using nine tiny little acupuncture-style needles. During the show she said: "Oh my God. I will never get a facelift if it feels like that.'' Although she had previously said in footage from the programme that she loves "trying anything that makes you look and feel youthful.'' The reality star also shared a picture on Twitter with the hashtag #VampireFacial after the procedure was completed.
Despite controversy concerning this painful process, it is said that the radical treatment helps reduce wrinkles and improve skin's tone and texture. The gel-like substance is believed to boost collagen production and promote new tissue growth, smoothing the skin’s surface and look of fine lines, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Kim's usual skincare regime is much less radical, although highly expensive. Her treatments entail everything from a UMO 24-karat facial ($300), two glygolic peels per week ($500) to bi-monthly visits to Bailey’s Spa in Beverly Hills ($2,500).
Kim's not the only Hollywood star eager to keep her skin looking young and fresh. Anna Friel, 36, and Dannii Minogue, 41, are other celebrities who swear by the vampire facelift, with Anna saying that "it helps the skin repair itself".
