Gwyneth Paltrow reveals her make-up rule for daughter Apple

March 7, 2016

Gwyneth Paltrow recently launched organic make-up and skincare lines, so it comes as no surprise that the products' ingredients have been on her mind. The 43-year-old revealed that she has been trying to educate her and Chris Martin's daughter Apple on the world of beauty, as her 11-year-old discovers the world of make-up.

Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed she tries to educate Apple on what goes into beauty products

"It's tricky, because I don't want to make the margin so small that she feels like she's being deprived of something. I let her buy the things that she wants to buy," Gwyneth told Refinery29. "But I talk to her a lot about what's in certain products – sometimes, it makes an impact on her; sometimes, it doesn't."

She added: "She recently ordered a 180-eyeshadow eye palette from China that was literally $1.99 and I was like, 'I don't know what to say about that, I can't imagine what is in this product."

Gwyneth explained that she tries to let her daughter have "her own autonomy", but admitted when it comes to beauty products she worries about what Apple is putting on her skin.

Gwyneth has previously admitted she thinks Apple is still "too young" for make-up

"But I want her to feel her own autonomy. I’ve never been that mother that doesn't have Goldfish or Oreos in the house, because then I know when they have freedom, that's all that they’ll eat," she said. "I believe in not being so strict that you create this pent-up lust. But it's hard. I really wish [beauty] was more regulated, because then I wouldn’t have to worry about it to the extent that I do."

It's not the first time that Gwyneth has opened up about her daughter's love of beauty. Gwyneth revealed that while she does let Apple wear make-up around the house, she still prefers for her daughter to be make-up free when she goes outside.

"I let my daughter wear make-up around the house, because she really loves it, but she also does special-effects make-up and she loves to experiment and she'll do really wild things so she'll like, do some Snapchat person with rainbows down the face," Gwyneth told Yahoo! Beauty.

She added: "Sometimes like if we're going to a party, she'll put on some mascara and then take it off so there's like a hint. So she's allowed to do that, but she's a bit young for, you know, a full face."
