Katy Perry has sparked a frenzy amongst fans after releasing her new perfume Mad Love. Many began speculating that the scent is a reference to Taylor Swift's hit song Bad Blood, which features the phrase "mad love" in its lyrics.
Is Katy Perry's new perfume inspired by Taylor Swift?
"Cause baby now we got bad blood, you know it used to be mad love," sung Taylor on the 2014 hit, which was later remixed in May 2015 to include rapper Kendrick Lamar.
With stars including Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid and Lena Dunham featuring in the video, it has since become one of Taylor's iconic hits – and the star has previously admitted that she wrote the track following a feud with an unnamed fellow pop star.
Taylor has previously admitted that Bad Blood is about a fellow pop star
"For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not," she told Rolling Stones magazine. "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'"
Although Taylor never named her pop star rival, many fans speculated that the song was written about Katy Perry – prompting some to suggest that Katy's new fragrance is a comeback.
Katy recently launched a new collection of lipsticks
However, Mad Love follows a theme for the Firework hitmaker's fragrance range, with her previous scent being named Mad Potion.
Katy has been hard at work expanding her beauty empire in recent months, delighting beauty addicts earlier this year when she unveiled a collection of lipsticks in collaboration with CoverGirl.
The Roar hitmaker first took to Twitter to announce her exciting new venture, writing to her 89.7 million followers. "After several wonderful years of BEING the face, I now get to CREATE the face!" she said of her work with CoverGirl, for whom she has been a brand ambassador since 2013.
