Instagram star proudly displays her eczema to make a point about social media

Most of us only promote the best version of ourselves on Instagram – it is, after all, pretty much a highlights reel. But a blogger showed you don’t always have to look flawless as she posted a candid snap of herself on the social media site. The Instagram star, who normally shares photos of herself working out or modelling athleisure, said: “Slightly different #REALITYCHECK today. Social media/Instagram will show the good days, the good parts of people and their lives – and that’s OK!”

She added: “That’s what social media is for! But here’s a reminder that next time you see something on social media that you think is ‘goals’ that it’s not the full story, it’s not how that person will look or be allll the time… I’m struggling to accept myself on the right…”

The photo showed Carys on the left with a full face of make-up, looking totally flawless, and on the right make-up free and suffering from eczema. “I have a skin condition called eczema and sometimes my skin is happy as Larry and sometimes it has flare ups,” she wrote.

It’s a big insecurity of mine and that’s fine. I’m learning to accept myself knowing that everyone has their own struggles and insecurities and that’s what makes us unique and special.”

In a previous post, Carys had opened up about the condition and how it affects her everyday life. “Lately it’s only been getting worse and it’s become a daily struggle for me,” she wrote.

“There hasn’t been a day in 4 months now that my skin hasn’t been covered in sore, itchy, bleeding red patches. I moisturise my whole body 2-4 times a day (it takes a while), I take tablets, I use steroid cream, I do everything and it isn’t going away.

“Although it doesn’t seem life-changing from afar, these patches are extremely sore and itchy all over my body.”

Carys is, however, trying to accept the fact that she has the condition and move forward. “Learning to accept my skin is hard but I’m trying each and every day to love myself even with these patches.”
