With a New Year comes fresh promises to take better care of ourselves including stepping up our beauty routine. Whether it's making sure you take off your make-up every day or drinking eight glasses of water, there are many simple resolutions you can make that are both effective and easy to stick to in 2019….
Cleanse, tone and moisturise daily - but maybe not in that order!
They're the three golden rules of skincare and yet many of us often skip these steps, especially after a late night. However, just taking the time will help to improve your complexion and keep skin healthy. Make sure to cleanse, tone and moisturise twice a day, every day, but does it need to be in that particular order? Perhaps not.
Victoria Beckham swears by The Lancer Method which shakes up everything you thought you knew about skincare. For example, switching around the cleaner and the exfoliator. That's right, according to Dr Harold Lancer - the go-to guy in Hollywood - you apply the polish to dry skin before you cleanse your face. Lancer advocates using the Polish on skin which is damp at the very most, and using it before removing face make up. You then use the Cleanser to wash away both your make-up and dirt as well as dead skin cells. Finally, apply the Nourish to seal in moisture. Find out more on Lookfantastic.com.
Clean all of your brushes
Think about how often you use your hairbrush and make-up brushes – and now try to remember the last time you washed them. Make sure to wash your brushes once a week as dirt, oil and bacteria build up very quickly, which can lead to breakouts or leave your hair feeling greasy.
Exfoliate your body once a week
Exfoliation is key to keeping your skin radiant and cleansing the pores of dirt and bacteria. Stick to once a week otherwise you could risk irritating your skin. We love Sanctuary Spa's Hot Sugar Scrub, £13.
Drink more water
Not only will drinking more water make you feel more alert and well, but it will show too. Staying hydrated will benefit the skin, keeping it moisturised and plump, while also helping the body to flush out toxins more efficiently resulting in a healthy glow. Aim to drink two litres every day.
Try out different trends
Most of us are guilty of sticking to one go-to look, but experimenting with hair and make-up is fun and you could discover an unexpected style that suits you. There's an abundance of tutorials available online, so if you want to master a new trend, set aside the time to watch the videos and practice – you may even pick up a trick on how to save time, whether it's for contouring or when you're curling your hair.
Get more sleep at night
It's called beauty sleep for a reason – after a long day, it's the time when your body is at its most active, repairing any damage and allowing itself to recuperate. You should be getting at least eight hours a night – not only will this allow your skin to rest and stay radiant, but it will also give your hair a chance to repair any damage. Try a slip silk pillow case, £79, to give you even more of a luxurious night's sleep, and if you really wanted to go wild, try This Works Sleep Power Nap Spray, £12.
