We’ve been a long-standing fan of actress and model Dree Hemingway, but this season she’s been catapulted into the spotlight as the one to watch. With her recent buzzcut, that shows off her beyond perfect bone structure, she was first spotted strutting her stuff at Marc Jacobs during New York Fashion Week. Now in London, with her cropped hair newly dyed shocking pink, she walked first at Matty Bovan on Friday then Saturday at Henry Holland alongside LFW favourite, Winnie Harlow.
Henry’s show, with it’s prime spot early on a Saturday evening, always pulls the crowds and this season was no exception. His usual supporters sitting FROW included DJ Nick Grimshaw, Pixie Geldof, Alice Dellal and Nicola Roberts, as well as Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Also in the mix was Glow actress and singer Kate Nash and Molly Moorish, daughter of Lisa Moorish and Liam Gallagher.
Key looks included lightweight tailoring in technical ripstop fabric and printed shell suiting, while logo mania was in full force splashed across second skin sheer under layers. Bright acid colour pops of neon pink, orange and blue were used to give the quirky pieces a sense of urgency which reflected the collections title ‘pull in emergency’.
Parachute parkas (one of the biggest emerging trends we’ve spotted) came in interesting colour combos and fluoro brights. Adding a touch of sparkle were the long beaded dresses layered over trousers, the hooped glitter earrings and Swarovski crystals in an ombre effect on silk evening wear. Best of all were the functional accessories from cross body bags to chunky lace up sandals, created in collaboration with Grenson, that perfectly complimented his mix of elevated sportswear.
The other crowd pleaser on the second day of London Fashion Week was the Julien Macdonald show featuring his signature glittering gowns and shimmering metallic sheath dresses. Set in the spectacular St John’s church in Hyde Park with an eclectic mix of guests including Millie Mackintosh and Nicole Scherzinger (both wearing Julien Macdonald), Ashley Williams, presenter Laura Whitmore, comedian Alan Carr and Megan from Love Island.
The event began with VIPS, press and other attendees fighting to get in through the tight arch doors; making the mojitos on arrival feel like a well deserved treat. Although the show started 50 minutes late, it was worth the wait. Julien showcased his usual mix of sexy body cons, covered it sparkles and plunged necklines.
Recently announced Victoria Secret Model Winnie Harlow dazzled an animal print silver dress with a slit up her left leg, showcasing her sensational figure. She later closed the show in a white beaded leotard with cascading train alongside the gorgeous Izabel Goulart hand in hand with the designer himself for the finale.
