The countdown to the Monday of all Mondays is on, and we couldn't be more excited to see what this year's crop of celebrities will be wearing at the Met Gala 2022. The legendary annual fashion fundraiser, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, always has a star-studded guest list, on account of its pricey tickets.

How the year has flown by! Only, it has actually only been eight months since the ‘Superbowl of Fashion’ last welcomed actors, singers, sports stars to raise money for the museum's Costume Institute – the 2021 ball had to be postponed due to the pandemic. With only a few days to go, here's everything you need to know about this year's bash.

When is the Met Gala?

This year the Met Gala takes place on 2 May 2022, as it usually does on the first Monday in the month of May. And judging by the sound of the theme, it's set to be one of the most decadent yet. What is this year's Met Gala theme? The gala will mark the launch of an exhibition entitled 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion', a historical retrospective documenting how American fashion has evolved. The dress code, 'Gilded Glamour and White Tie' focuses on the Gilded Age, a major period of economic growth in American history. So, what do the select few fashion designers have in store for celebrity guests this year? We're expecting hourglass silhouettes, and bustles galore, alongside some extreme corset action.

The Gilded Age is HBO's historical drama about New York society in the early 1900's

Think Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt-Bukater in Titanic or Winona Ryder as May Welland in The Age of Innocence. They are loosely based on the actual New York socialites of the era; Caroline Schermerhorn Astor and Alva Vanderbilt. If the names Astor, Vanderbilt and Rockefeller mean anything to you - they are all families who came to prominence during the Gilded Age. HBO has even created a show based on the era, aptly titled ‘The Gilded Age’ starring Cynthia Nixon.

Who is going to the Met Gala?

Agonisingly, until the night before the fundraiser, the guest list is kept secret. Oh come on, Anna! But if past years are anything to go by, the Met Gala 2022 will be a star-studded affair, having previously welcomed some of the biggest names in the world, including the likes of Rihanna, Beyoncé and Sarah Jessica Parker. In the past few years social media stars and even famous TikTokers and YouTubers such as Addison Rae and Emily Chamberlain have made the roster.

Who is hosting the Met Gala?

Gossip Girl star Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds are not only the ultimate Instagram power couple, but also the main hosts of the evening, handpicked by Anna Wintour herself. They will also be joined by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and actress Regina King to present the night's festivities.
