Whilst the boho aesthetic never truly goes away, we’ve seen its resurgence on the AW24 runways and it's like a warm, comforting nostalgia. This time around, it has a more mature feel.

We feel like we’ve been transported back to 2004, the era of disc belts, suede fabrics, prairie dresses and ruffled blouses, endlessly searching for pics of ultimate boho-queen Sienna Miller’s Glastonbury looks for style inspo.

As Gabriela Hearst said her goodbye as Creative Director at the SS23 PFW Chloé show, Chemena Kamali’s arrival was much anticipated for AW24, and we were not disappointed. The front row was lined with wooden and leather wedges, giving us a sneak peek of what to expect from the collection.

As the Chloé show unfolded, it was clear Chemena had single-handedly revived boho chic. Amongst the designs we saw ruffled blouses tucked into jeans, billowing chiffon dresses, wooden clogs all in neutral tones.

As fashion month went on, we saw other designers also tapping into the boho trend. At Isabel Marant we saw an array of fringed pieces and suede fabrics and Chanel style flowy dresses with knee-high boots, big bangles and cinched waists with belts.

However, if we look back to the SS23 and SS24 runways, we’ve seen the boho trend slowly creeping its way back into style. For SS24, Ermanno Scervino had an array of sheer fabrics, full suede looks, tiered maxi skirts, and layered gold jewellery. At Isabel Marant SS23 we saw chiffon fabrics, crochet finishes, ditsy floral prints and ruffles galore and in true Altuzarra style, we saw tie-dye patterns, gold disc detailings and studded sandals.

We did have somewhat of an indication we may see a boho revival following the popularity of Daisy Jones & The Six - set in the 1970s, so a lot of denim and printed, chiffon blouses were to be expected.

What is boho style?

The boho trend, deriving from the word bohemian, skyrocketed in the mid 2000s – although the style actually harks back to much earlier. In the late 1960s and early 1970s when the hippie counterculture was at the fore, a pointed rejection of formal silhouettes resulted in flowy fabrics, loose-fitting shapes, earthy tones and, naturally, a healthy dose of fringing.

Some key pieces that have come to epitomise the height of boho chic include suede and chiffon fabrics, embroidered peasant blouses, earthy tones and wedges.

Hello! Fashion shares how you can embrace the boho vibe in your wardrobe:

  1. 1/15

    Ruffled Tiered Pleated Silk-Crepon Gown

    Chloé

We can't recommend pieces for you to buy without including the brand that initiated its revival. This Chloé dress is the epitome of boho: its earthy tone, ruffled layered hem and chiffon fabric.

  2. 2/15

    High-Heeled Boots

    ba&sh

If you want to buy just one piece to introduce yourself to the boho trend, make it these ba&sh boots. A knee-high boot has endless styling options and easily slots into your everyday wardrobe.

  3. 3/15

    Tara Blouse

    Sézane

Suede is the go-to fabric when it comes to the boho trend. Style layered over a ruffled shirt with wide-leg jeans to embrace a full look.

  4. 4/15

    Everystud Mini

    Russell & Bromley

Studs and fringing detailing are key for the trend. We love this black leather studded bag from Russell & Bromley and its easily wearable in your everyday wardrobe.

  5. 5/15

    Ravenna Printed Convertible Maxi Skirt

    Free People

If we could only choose one brand to shop from for a boho style, it comes as no surprise that we'd head straight for Free People. We also love a versatile option, this maxi skirt easily transforms into a strapless dress.

  6. 6/15

    Kew Oversized Sunglasses

    Linda Farrow

Oversized, ombré lenses and neutral tones are what we'd look out for in sunglasses for a boho-esque feel.

  7. 7/15

    Brynn Drawstring Trouser

    Citizens of Humanity

Citizens of Humanity is our go-to brand when it comes to denim. A light wash wide-leg jean is the perfect piece to embrace the trend whilst still investing in something that can be worn with so many different outfits.

  8. 8/15

    Veda Houston Suede Jacket

    Reformation

A brown suede jacket will easily become a wardrobe staple, so it won't be difficult to style it in a number of different ways. It's perfect for the transitional season.

  9. 9/15

Pack of 3 Metal and Resin Bracelets

    Zara

We've seen statement jewellery for the last couple of seasons and it's sticking around for AW24. Layering it up makes a bold statement.

  10. 10/15

    Smocked Collarless Blouse

    Frame

This blouse is one of those pieces in your wardrobe that makes you feel instantly put together. Style with high-waisted jeans or a denim midi skirt.

  11. 11/15

    Illustration Tailored Pant

    Zimmermann

The modern update of the boho trend includes a lot of earthy tones and wide silhouettes. These Zimmermann trousers tick every box and we'd tuck a floaty blouse into them.

  12. 12/15

    Parsley Embroidered Cotton-Gauze Mini Dress

    Marant Étoile

This mini dress will make you look instantly put together. Its cinched waist and tasseled neck ties give understated finishing touches.

  13. 13/15

    Rita Necklace

    Daphine

Embrace two trends in one and opt for a pendant necklace. They're set to be big for AW24 and instantly elevate any outfit.

  14. 14/15

    Leather Strappy Espadrille Wedges

    Charles & Keith

The revival of boho brings the comeback of the raffia wedge. Style with a floaty summer dress, your favourite jeans or a cute mini skirt.

  15. 15/15

    Slit Denim Skirt

    Mango

Denim is an easy way for anyone to slot the boho trend into their wardrobes. We love the contrast stitching of this Mango number and would style it with a chiffon blouse and suede boots.
