Tights trends come and go but one thing is for certain, when it comes to winter dressing no outfit is complete without leg-warming hosiery. The cold months are well underway, so it's time to start amping up our arsenal of sheers and opaque, and make room for tights in our wardrobes.
As it happens, tights are actually the cool-girl must-have accessory of this season. “With black dresses and black tights with a pattern, you look different. It looks interesting,” Kristina Falke, international PR Director of hosiery brand Falke previously told Hello! Fashion. “With the patterns and bright colours, you should put on the tights and then choose what you wear. But with a black dress, anything goes.”
The Pinterest fashion autumn trends team revealed that searches for the term 'printed tights' have rocketed by 205 per cent, indicating that the eye-catching stockings are set to be a seasonal hit this year. Stars spanning Chappell Roan, Dua Lipa and Emma Corrin would certainly agree, each donning vibrant hosiery for events including red carpets and performances.
Whether you're a fan of failproof black or dopamine-inducing red, there are endless on-trend tights options to amp up your accessories arsenal this year. Scroll on to see how the fashion set is styling them...
From the celebrities to the runway, these are the tights trending in 2024
Refined Fishnet Tights
Fishnets have been on our agenda since Maya Jama wore them with a monochrome dress to the launch of Lotus London, and Mia Regan and Nicola Peltz both wore them to Victoria Beckham's SS24 Paris Fashion Show in September 2023. Fast-forward to this year and style icon Camille Charriere is donning hers during Paris Couture Week, whilst Lizzo nailed the no trousers trend at the Super Bowl.
Sheer Tights
Gone are the days of Kendall Jenner's ultra-thick back tights that she wore with that Bottega hot pants look last autumn. Sexy sheer tights with delicate dernier are back. Dakota Johnson proved exactly how to elevate an all-black outfit with sheer tights, wearing a fitted strapless mini dress with black stilettos from Christian Louboutin. Nicola Peltz also styled up sheer tights this season with a white ruched mini dress designed by her mother-in-law Victoria Beckham.
Lace Tights
The combination of lace gloves plus rose-print reappearing this year makes it unsurprising that lace tights are a trend for this season. Victoria Beckham perfectly demonstrated how to style them for the launch of Victoria Beckham Beauty's inaugural perfume collection, wearing a black blazer and black stilettos, trying out this season's 'no trousers' trend. Kim Kardashian also put her own spin on the trouserless trend wearing nude tights with a lace overlay, giving the illusion she was wearing no pants.
White Tights
A totally unexpected type of tights on fashion agendas this season is white tights, though it does make sense considering all-white outfits have been donned by the likes of the Princess of Wales, Kim Kardashian and Meghan Markle this winter. Whether opaque, translucent or lace, the snow-fuelled aesthetic has taken over fashion agendas. Our favourite kind of tighty whities...
Scarlet Shades
Red outfits in general have proven to be one of this season's biggest trends, but red tights are also shrouding sartorial agendas and giving all the Blair Waldorf vibes we need this year. On the streets of New York During AW24 fashion month, guests made red tights in all shades their statement accessory.
Shimmer Tights
Pop princesses from Sabrina Carpenter to Taylor Swift have embraced shimmering hosiery. Merging girlish glamour and theatre kid drama, the sleek underwear staple is perfect for sparkling under the spotlight.
