Cast your mind back to 2012. No outfit was complete without an over-skirt or ruffle attached to the waistline of a skirt, top, or dress.
Peplum was everywhere, in fact the peplum dress was easily 2012's most wanted fashion item. Search statistics at the time revealed that the term 'peplum dress' was 2012’s most popular, closely followed by onesies and leather shorts. It was spotted on Tory Burch, Peter Som, Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen runways back in fall 2012. Glamour magazine called it "The silhouette of Spring 2012!"

Vanessa Kirby is reviving the peplum
Now exactly 10 years later, The Crown's Vanessa Kirby made a case for the return of this early 2010's fashion staple. They say fashion is cyclical, and nowhere is this more true than in the case of Vanessa. The actress opted for a black Schiaparelli dress, adorned with a dramatic peplum ruffle to attend the UK Premiere of The Son during the 66th BFI London Film Festival at The Royal Festival Hall. The dress is from the avant-garde Parisian heritage label’s Spring 2023 Ready-To-Wear collection, which was inspired by Creative Director Daniel Roseberry’s trip to Il Pellicano, the beloved Italian resort in Porto Ercole, "There I watched as women from around the world got dressed—for a day at the beach and later, for drinks and dinner," he explained "I realized I was creating a uniform for them in my head: stark strokes of colour in sharp but roomy silhouettes, embellished with unapologetically glamorous bijoux."

Keeping all the attention of the ultra-flattering silhouette Vanessa opted to sweep her blonde hair back into an elegant bun. For beauty she donned scarlett red lipstick, adding drama to the look. Her latest project The Son is a 2022 drama film directed by Florian Zeller from a screenplay by him and Christopher Hampton. It is based on Zeller's 2018 stage play Le Fils. Alongside Vanessa Kirby the film also stars Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern and Anthony Hopkins.
