Naturally, it is unrealistic to expect a beauty product to transform your sleep since there are so many potential other factors that could be affecting the number of hours you get and the quality of your rest. But creating a relaxing ambience and sticking to a routine can really helpful in signalling to your brain that it is time to unwind.
How we chose:
Calming: All our product selections are either packed with soothing, comforting ingredients, or are specifically designed with maximising your sleep in mind.
Performance and personal testimony: The sleep-related beauty buys chosen below are products that I (Hello! Fashion's resident beauty obsessive Orin Carlin) personally really rate.
Hello! Fashion shares the best beauty products to ensure a restful night's sleep:
Best Beauty Sleep Products
Nocturne Candle
Ormonde Jayne
Inspired by roaring open fires and spicy embers, Ormonde Jayne's 'Nocturne' candle makes for a deliciously cosy complement to a parky winter's evening. Radiating woody warmth, the scent is infused with notes of sandalwood and cedar, but it's not overly earthy - which suits me nicely. I've lit mine on rotation for the past couple of Christmases, and, at a hefty 280g, I'm pleased to report that it's still going strong.
Aromachologie Relaxing Pillow Mist
L'Occitane
I was gifted a bottle of L'Occitane's Relaxing Pillow Mist a few years ago by a close friend during a particularly hideous bout of insomnia, and I am devoted to it. It's no miracle cure, nor does it claim to be. But the peaceful blend of lavender, bergamot, mandarin, sweet orange and geranium essential oils works to create a calming ambience - a useful sensory indication to your brain that it's time to wind down.
Silk Sleep Mask
Slip
If you require total darkness to get your shut-eye, investing in a quality silk eye mask is a no-brainer. Slip's version, available in almost every conceivable colour, is unmatched. Crafted from luxurious mulberry silk, the fabric is super gentle around your delicate eye area. I've got blackout blinds so I don't wear mine all the time, but if I'm staying overnight in a hotel I can't bear to be without it.
Moisture Surge Hydrating Water Gel Concentrate
Clinique
Clinique's iconic Moisture Surge range is excellent across the board, but I particularly love its Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate for a plumping hit of moisture during the serum stage of my nighttime skincare routine. The hyaluronic acid-packed water-gel formula is light and easy to apply, but not overly fluid, and always leaves my skin feeling fully quenched.
Active Botanical Serum
Vintner's Daughter
Granted, Vintner's Daughter's Active Botanical Serum is expensive, but it is truly first-rate. A glow-inducing blend of botanical oils (nettle, rosehip, lavender, lemon and the like) works to make your skin feel soothed, supple and look more refreshed the next day. It's an indulgence, and a glorious one at that.
Lemonaid Lip Treatment
Lanolips
Lanolips' Lemonaid Lip Treatment is one of my favourite-ever lip balms, and I am someone who suffers from roughness across the surface of my lips practically all year round. Woe is me. The unctuous formula contains lemon oil for gentle exfoliation and medical-grade lanolin to lock in the moisture.
Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm
Ren Clean Skincare
Formulated with olive, almond, borage and linseed oils to plump and flood the skin with nutrients, Ren's Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm is rich and comforting. Use it sparingly - a little goes a long way - as a last step instead of a night cream if your skin is feeling weathered.
Aromatic Foaming Bath
Neal's Yard Remedies
I tend to avoid bath foam because it can leave my skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. But this gorgeous, sedative blend of lavender, Spanish marjoram and geranium essential oils by Neal's Yard is balancing and nourishing, perfect for a soothing pre-sleep soak.
