Not a trend goes by that Mia Regan (AKA Mimi Moocher) doesn't execute with the utmost flair.

From Crocs to curtain-reveals, the 19 year-old uploaded a story to her Instagram yesterday donning Autumn/Winter 2022's latest Y2K revival – platform UGG boots. Regan wore her Ultra Mini Platforms as part of her Sunday best in a dark green 'Forest Night' colourway. In keeping with the Y2K theme, she paired her boots with baggy low-rise jeans and a brown-hued vintage checkered blazer. Of course, no Mimi Moocher outfit would be complete without a pop of colour and a neon, cropped Ganni jumper was the perfect pairing.

Like many other Y2K trends such as low-rise jeans, velour Juicy Couture tracksuits and those eye-wateringly short pleated miniskirts now synonymous with Miu-Miu; UGG boots are a trend we thought destined to be left in the past (partially due to some of the cheaper dupes slouching so much at the heel that the sole of the foot was almost on the ground. Remember those?).

But, as we trudge through the final quarter of 2022, perhaps it should come as no surprise that yet another 2000's look has come full circle. UGG boots are back in all their glory; but this time, they’re two inches higher. Platform UGGS have become the go-to shoe for a-listers and beyond, as the ultimate comfort-chic accessory this autumn/winter.

UGG's signature style boot has been redesigned in a mini version with extra height at the sole. The style has also been worn by the likes of supermodel sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, Keke Palmer and Elsa Hosk.

The mini-boot style – minus the platform – was released back in 2020, but prime pandemic time means we were forced to wear the slipper-like shoe purely as house shoes. Unless of course, one was outdoors long enough for the paparazzi to get a sneaky shot (which – lest we forget – was illegal at one point). In 2021 Hailey Bieber was spotted wearing the Nuemel style platform boots, but UGGs with extra sole have reached new heights this year, with the hashtag #platformuggs amassing a whopping 18.8 million views on TikTok.

Ugg boots (the generic name for the boot, not the brand) originated from Australia in the 1960's. And although they predominantly wear them as slippers down under, the celebrity elites are proving that they can be worn with literally anything. Gigi Hadid paired hers with a cobalt blue tracksuit, whilst Keke Palmer was spotted in New York City wearing hers with a slit mid-length denim skirt and a matching cropped jacket.

Mia has been praised by Victoria Beckham for her "unique" style

Boots aren't the only UGG platform style taking the world by storm this year. The Tazz mule is another style that is selling like hot-cakes, (notably after the sheepskin lined mules were spotted on Molly-Mae Hague's Instagram.) Though she sported the classic chestnut colourway, a bold 'purple ruby' shoe is available, to throw some Barbiecore into the mix. An expensive price to pay for a slipper, so it's logical to wear them as outerwear too. If Hailey Bieber says it’s fashionable, who are we to disagree?
