The Crown's Elizabeth Debicki demonstrates the power of the little black dress

Is this becoming a staple look for her?

Clothing trends for 2022 have much been centred on bright colours, sheer material and garments that take us back to the late nineties/early noughties. But Elizabeth Debicki is proving to us, time and time again, that less is in fact sometimes more.

The late Princess of Wales in The Crown, the Queen of black outfits on the red carpet – the Australian actress wore another unadorned ensemble, proving that black needn't be boring.

The cream mesh lining gave the outfit some subtle detailing

The 32-year-old wore a simple plunge black midi-dress, with a plunging neckline that accentuated her statuesque figure (the actress is an impressive 6'3") at the ‘Netflix TV Celebration: Cocktails + Conversations', on Thursday (November 17) in New York City. The satin slip dress had a delicate visible cream mesh lining at the leg slit, which Debicki paired with red wine coloured stilettos, a gold choker necklace and some statement earrings.

Though she sometimes sports lighter hues, it seems since her exponential rise to the spotlight since The Crown, she has been a fan of wearing black (with the odd pop of colour). The Netflix celebration is not the first time this week that the leading lady has attended a special event in all black attire.

On Tuesday, she attended the SAG Nomination event in NYC in a relaxed slouchy black suit paired with black trainers, which was perhaps another ode to her character of Princess Diana, who was a fan of menswear and tailoring.

More notably, the dress she wore to The Crown premiere on November 8 was the black dress of the year. Her Dior dress with a draped neckline was a clear nod to Princess Diana’s blue Catherine Walker dress from 1987.

Perhaps, after six years of waiting to play the character of Diana (thanks, COVID) finally being able to wear the infamous revenge dress has sparked a certain feeling of confidence or dominance in black clothing?

Who knows. Either way, we are loving it.
