The Prince and Princess of Wales hosted the second annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Friday evening and for the momentous occasion Princess Kate dazzled in a decadent outfit, wearing a stunning green  Solace London dress, sustainably rented from Hurr paired with an emerald choker inherited from her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

The choker boasts an approximate market value guessed to be almost $20 Million in today’s currency and was made famous by Princess Diana, when she wore it on her head as a bandeau giving it her own unique spin, during a dance with Prince Charles in Melbourne in 1985.

Kate wore a necklace that previously belonged to Princess Diana

"Originally a 16 cabochon emeralds choker, it belonged to Queen Mary, wife of King George V and grandmother of the late Queen Elizabeth II,” explains Regal Fille, “Queen Mary received the stunning diamond and Emerald necklace as a gift in 1911 during the Delhi darbar. The choker was part of the Delhi Darbar Parure. Queen Mary was very fond of jewels and she quite liked the piece and was seen wearing it many times. She had it redesigned to its current 14 cabochon emeralds set in platinum in the Art Deco style in 1921 by Garrard."

“The necklace was subsequently passed on to the late Queen Elizabeth II, yet she never wore the choker in public. The former monarch presented the choker to her eldest daughter-in-law, Lady Diana Spencer, as a wedding gift in 1981 as a life-long loan,” writes Hello!’s Tania Leslau.

Diana last wore the choker on her 36th birthday (as a necklace) during a visit to Tate Gallery. 25 years on the stunning piece caught the eye of Princess Kate and of course since Friday, all we have been thinking about is green baubles and gemstones. The look couldn’t come at a better time, with the festive season fully in swing. Thankfully, there are plenty of stunning emerald and green gemstone pieces out at the moment, reminiscent of Kate’s emerald choker, which will help you nail the look.
