Princess Kate wore the Lotus Flower tiara for the event
Instead of going for the standard up-do which has become de rigueur for the royal's recent tiara looks, she modernised the look with a stunning centre parted sleek blow dry, complete with plenty of volume at the crown (pardon the pun). Thankfully there are plenty of places which can help you achieve Kate's princess perfect mane, including society It-girl favourite salon Clo&Flo.
Clo&Flo's co-founder and artistic director, Flo Amsellem tells Hello! Fashion exactly how to get the look:
How to get Princess Kate's Modern Tiara Blow dry:
Part 1: Create the front section that frames the face...
- "Part the hair in the centre at the front of the hairline."
- "Separating the first section (using a tail comb for precision) 1.5 inches away from the hairline to create a headband shape over the front of the head. (Tie or clamp the rest of the hair at the back of the head to keep clear.)"
- "Smooth the hair around the head separating each side of the parting and following the hair down and round to the base of the skull, creating a neat and tight headband effect. Using a tiny clear hairband at the base of the skull to keep the section together, you can use flat hair grips if needed but must be hidden under the back section of hair."
Part 2: Back section of the hair...
- "This requires teasing at the root in small sections to create volume around the crown of the head, making sure the lengths and ends are smooth and combed. Add hairspray in between each tease for maximum hold."
- "Once the teasing has been accomplished to the desired volume. Using a fine tooth comb to smooth the top over to hide the teasing."
- "The tiara would now be placed where the first and second section meets"
If you're looking for your own tiara moment, you can also try try SK Hair & Beauty, founded by Stephen Casali on 161 Ebury Street in London. "The Belgravia institution is famous for its discretion and the only place to go when being styled with a tiara," explains society Tatler, "Princess Alexandra is a regular – however, she prefers to have her hair coiffed without an audience and is swiftly ushered into a private area downstairs upon arrival. Lady Vestey and the Countess of Snowdon also come to Ebury Street."
The event which took place last night marks Kate’s fourth time wearing the Lotus Flower Tiara (which also known as the Papyrus Tiara.) The royal last wore this particular diadem back in 2015 for a state banquet in honour of a visit from the president of China, Xi Jinping. Back then she opted to sweep up her brunette tresses in a traditional elegant up-do.
