“It has to be flawless” Meghan’s wedding dress designer reveals all in Harry & Meghan documentary Part 2

The second part of Harry & Meghan has just dropped on Netflix, and Clare Waight Keller, the former Creative Director of Givenchy made her first appearance on the documentary. 

The designer became a household name after being entrusted with the gargantuan task of designing The Duchess of Sussex’s wedding dress, while she was still working at the French couture house (Clare left Givenchy on 10 April 2020.)

When Meghan Markle stepped out on 19 May 2018, ready to marry Prince Harry. The world took a collective gasp at her stunning wedding dress, the timeless gown has since gone down in history. Luckily for us Clare has now revealed the thought process that went into creating the dress for Meghan’s nuptials.

“Looking at the design of the dress there were many conversations we had over how you want to present yourself to the world,” Clare explained in a moment to camera, “I mean most of us have a wedding with, you know, 70 to 200 people,” she explained, “This was billions of people watching this wedding.” Clare then chuckles at the incredulousness of the situation Meghan found herself facing as she walked down the aisle.

“It has to be flawless, it has to be perfect,” Clare explained of the dress. The designer who has served as the Artistic Director for a number of luxury fashion houses including Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, also commended the couple for choosing to break away from tradition during the ceremony, “The whole ceremony was something quite unique. A gospel choir. That had never been part of a royal wedding before,” said Clare.

Meghan for her part explains how she calmed her nerves on her big day, “I just remember thinking, ‘Just take a deep breathe and keep going.’”

Plenty more wedding secrets are revealed in Episode 4, including Meghan also sharing that Harry chose the song that Meghan walked down the aisle to. “The world was watching us, but when we were actually at the altar as far as I was concerned it was just the two of us,” Harry told the cameras.
