Let’s be honest, jewellery is usually our favourite part of a royal ensemble to scrutinise. As stunning as their designer gowns and top-tier tailored suits are, we are most interested in their dazzling bijouterie. We love to learn the history of their diamond encrusted accessories, often vintage heirlooms with an iconic history behind them.
Recently, The Duchess of Sussex sported Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring to the Ripple of Hope awards last week. And at her first state banquet as Queen Consort in November, Camilla opted for the late Queen Elizabeth’s diamond and sapphire tiara.

However, this is not always the case, as it turns out our modern monarchy is also pretty thrifty. Both Kate and Meghan have sported classic dangly earrings in recent weeks, and they have more in common than just their bargain price.
Attending the Ripple of Hope awards last week, Meghan Markle wore these stunning dangle earrings from Caroline Herrera that she paired with that white off the shoulder bespoke Louis Vuitton gown. Meanwhile Kate sported a similar pair of dangly earrings to the annual christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall last night from accessories, which cost just £14. Both royals sported tonal hued earrings – Meghan’s opulent gold and translucent pair matched her white dress, and Kate wore berry coloured stones which looked like diamond heirlooms, to match her fitted burgundy coat from Eponine London. Dangled earrings come in many forms, (for example, chandeliers) but they both opted for a sleek, singular chain of stones for a delicate yet striking effect.

These sophisticated style earrings are classics, but they’ve seen a resurgence in popularity this year, with A-List celebrities sporting the style across the red carpet, including Jenna Coleman’s sensational Bulgari diamonds at the British Independent Film Awards, Hailey Bieber’s ultra chunky silver earrings in Miami and Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer’s exquisite diamond dangle chandelier bijouterie at the Walpole British Luxury Awards. British brand Oliver Cabell says these earrings are perfect for when ‘you just need a good enough amount of flamboyance to catch everybody’s eyes.’
Sophisticated, elegant and the perfect way to elevate an outfit without the price tag, as proven by Meghan and Kate.
