The late Princess Diana still plays a pivotal role in influencing global fashion agendas. Even posthumously, Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother remains one of the most noteworthy style icons in the world.
And it appears that American couture house Bach Mai has taken a trip down memory lane to the 80’s, as Look 15 from its pre fall 2023 collection boasts a contemporary version of a sculptural dress style that Princess Diana famously sported on more than one occasion. And actress Britt Lower just wore it to the Golden Globes 2023.

The Severance actress had her own princess moment wearing the strapless black gown with an incredible voluptuous puff-ball pink skirt. The skin tight black body with a satin neckline was ultra flattering, and created the perfect backdrop to let the stunning ruffled lower half take centre stage. She wore the dress with elbow length gloves (as did Princess Di’), but Britt’s were a leather-look latex material, adding a contemporary feel to the classic ensemble.
The 37-year-old wore her auburn tress pulled back with wispy curls left loose at the front. Her clean updo left room for a pair of avant-garde black, red and silver dangle earrings to dazzle.
Princess Diana famously wore an almost identical dress to the Americas Cup Ball at Grosvenor House in September 1986. The most notable differences were that her gown was red and black, not pink, and she iconically sported elbow-length gloves in two different colours. The dress was created by the late British designer Murray Arbeid.

A year later she sported another similar ensemble to the Munich Opera House In Germany in 1987. This time the elegant dress oozed royalty, with its purple colourway and velvet fabric, created by Catherine Walker – one of the late princess’ favourite designers.

In the recent sartorial return of the 90s, Diana-inspired style is often spotted on the fashion’s cream of the crop. From celebs like Hailey Bieber sporting her iconic athleisure wear style, to her nieces Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer channelling their aunt’s retro jeans looks.
