On Saturday King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden gave their annual ‘Sverigemiddagen’ (Swedish dinner) at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
For the occasion which took place on the 21 January, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden re-wore one of the most fashion forward (and affordable) gowns in her wardrobe. The dress hails from the H&M x Giambattista Valli collection which was released back in 2019, and at the time retailed for a modest £249.99.

The future monarch teamed the ankle-length ball dress with Swarovski’s Power Rock clutch and ‘Gianvito 115’ black patent leather pumps from Gianvito Rossi. For jewellery the royal donned Prada’s Crystal Rose earrings and the Arrow bracelet from Kreuger Jewellery. Also in attendance was her sister in law, Princess Sofia of Sweden who wore the Selja gown from Nordic brand Andiata’s fall/winter 2019 collection, with a Bottega Veneta Knot Intrecciato-Woven leather clutch bag.
The 'Sverigemiddagen' was introduced ten years ago, to pay honour to people who have made significant contributions to Sweden locally, regionally or nationally. Guests from all of Sweden's counties, as well as the country's 21 governors, are invited to the dinner. The 200 distinguished guests are chosen by their local governors, and represent different sectors from culture, business, health care, education, sports. A highlight of the Swedish royal calendar, the event’s three-course meal was composed by Chef of the Year 2022 Jessie Sommarström, who offered a menu with Swedish ingredients, inspired by winter and forests. The tables were decorated with floral arrangements consisting of tulips, viburnums and anemones.

The dress Crown Princess Victoria wore was from H&M's collaboration with Giambattista Valli
The dinner began with the King giving a speech in which he said, among other things, "Honoured guests, you do not only represent your respective hometowns, you represent Sweden. And you are all doing amazing things for our country." The evening's dinner also marked the start of the King’s Jubilee celebrations, which marks King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 50 years on the throne. 2023 is an exciting year for celebrations in the country as it’s also the 500th anniversary of the election of Gustav Vasa as King of Sweden.
We can’t wait to see the rest of the glamorous gowns we are likely to see from the Swedish royals as a result of the bumper year.
