Harking back to the glitz and glamour that defined the 'Roaring 20s' was on the agenda for Dior on Monday for its SS23 haute couture show. The label's creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri paid tribute to the celebratory spirit of the decade, while simultaneously capturing the current pervading uncertainty and despondency via quietened glitters and faded decadence.

Staged at Paris' Musèe Rodin, the Josephine Baker-inspired show championed female luminaries from history and featured stunning draped velvet evening wear alongside shiny floral brocade coats and mesh fringed maxis.

True to Dior form, the guest list certainly sparkled. Screen star Anya Taylor-Joy stunned in a plunging embroidered waistcoat, complete with a matching cropped boxy jacket alongside the likes of retro style icons Bianca Jagger and Catherine Deneuve.

Monegasque royal Beatrice Borromeo went for a statement cape

Also present at the prestigious occasion was Monegasque royal Beatrice Borromeo who oozed vintage glamour in a light grey woven cape with a contrasting trim, layered over a sheer long-sleeved shirt.

The Italian journalist and aristocrat wore her golden locks in loose waves over her shoulders, her face framed perfectly with a delicate pair of pendant earrings and a domed black hat with mesh detailing.

Topping off her look, the 37-year-old opted for knee-high boots that echoed the fabric in her statement outerwear, featuring a single black diagonal stripe, and a sleek quilted top handle bag.

Spanish royal Victoria De Marichalar hopped on the current Mary Jane footwear trend

Meanwhile Spanish royal Victoria De Marichalar brought an air of cool-girl elegance in her sharply tailored ensemble, which consisted of a pristine white top-buttoned shirt layered under a military parade-inspired jacket, alongside a pair of simply cut cigarette trousers. The granddaughter of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía of Spain hopped on the current Mary Jane footwear trend, rocking a glossy patent pair with delicate buckle straps and slung a monochrome messenger bag over her shoulder.

Elizabeth Debicki opted for a patterned maxi skirt alongside a sheer blouse

The upper crust guest list didn't stop there. Another attendee who looked second to none, exuding sultry sophistication, was The Crown's Elizabeth Debicki. (Maybe not actual royalty, but certainly TV royalty.) The actress, who of course plays Princess Diana in the hit Netflix series, favoured a clean silhouette in a geometric maxi skirt with contrasting white pleats, which she teamed alongside a totally sheer bead-encrusted high necked blouse and an understated round-neck jacket.

We can’t wait to see what else Paris’ haute couture week has in store…
