Queen Letizia’s styling hack is the perfect alternative to Princess Kate’s ball gowns

Their Diplomatic Corps Reception wardrobes are completely different

On January 25, Queen Letizia of Spain and King Felipe VI hosted the annual Diplomatic Corps Reception 2023 at the Royal Palace of Zarzuela in Madrid.

The Queen looked as elegantly-chic as ever. And if you’re in need of a formal event outfit, but donning a ball gown feels slightly too dramatic, Letizia’s skirt and shirt combination is the ultimate special occasion styling hack.

She wore a white pussybow shirt by illustrious designer Carolina Herrera on her top-half. From Letizia’s tan CH bag to Meghan Markle’s affordable dangle earrings, the brand is a royal go-to. She amplified the feminine silhouette with a dusty pink pleated maxi skirt that gave the illusion of a taller frame.

The look was finished with tonal pink suede pumps from Lodi and pastel coloured dangle earrings from Tous.

The Spanish first-lady has repeatedly eschewed a regal gown for Diplomatic Corps Receptions, opting for less dramatic but equally elevated outfits. This is the total opposite to the Princess of Wales, who has plumped for show-stopping gowns and traditional tiaras on her sartorial agenda for the British version of events.

Last year Letizia wore a similar style drop waist skirt in green paired with a floral long sleeved top. The outfit was a vintage Valentino look previously worn by Queen Sofia in 1977.

In 2021 she did sport for a dress, however it was a tailored, double breasted and her hair was pulled back in a neat bun. Opting for more chic, less drama.

Again, Princess Kate’s dress code for this occasion is the total opposite. In December – when the Royal family traditionally hold their receptions – the Princess wore an embroidered Jenny Packham gown and the Queen Mother’s Lotus Flower Tiara. She also previously donned gowns by the likes of Alexander Mcqueen and Jenny Packham. But never without a vintage tiara.

Whether you’re a Queen Letizia or a Princess Kate fashion fan, both styles of dressing are perfect for a formal dress code, and equally as impressive.
