The Princess of Wales and her husband Prince William made their first joint official visit to Cornwall, since taking on their new titles as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall.
Arriving in Falmouth, Kate donned a stunning brown coat from Hobbs, one of her go-to high street stores and her trusty brown suede boots from Gianvitto Rossi.
The royal opted for a polo neck dress in a vibrant shade
Peeking through the chocolate, was a glimpse of magenta in the form of a roll neck knit dress. Not just any magenta… but Viva Magenta. The hue was recently announced global colour experts Pantone as their Colour of the Year for 2023.

The news that a vibrant pink shade is trending will come as no surprise to sartorialists, who have been eagerly keeping up with the ‘Barbiecore’ trend and all things pink since last year.
Although darker than the Valentino-inspired bubblegum pink that caught hearts of fashion fans everywhere in 2022, it’s clear that we won’t be ending our love affair with rosy tones anytime soon. We saw magenta take centre stage across various dresses at London Fashion Week, but most notably at the Nensi Dojaka show (as seen on Emily Ratajkowski.)

Princess Kate teamed her magenta dress with a belted piece of outerwear from Hobbs
The Viva Magenta that Kate donned for her Cornish trip, “is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength,” Pantone explains on its website, “Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration.”
How do I wear Magenta?
Need to wake up a quieter outfit? Viva Magenta works radiantly as an accessory, pair it with pale greys or earthy brown tones as Kate has done. Want to jump on the monochromatic trend? “Try it with other pinks and command the room,” explains Pantone, “Because Viva Magenta is a red that strikes a balance between warm and cool, it’s not too harsh for the body… This versatile shade is universally flattering across ages, genders, and skin tones.”
