6 things we can expect to see at London Fashion Week in February 2023

From Oxfam to Burberry, here's what to look out for during the AW23 shows…

February 10, 2023

As we settle into the new year, London Fashion Week serves as a great indicator of the trends we can expect to see in 2023. Could we be preparing to leave Y2K, slicked back hair, and Valentino's hot pink in 2022? The anticipated highlight of London AW23 is of course set to be Burberry's first collection under new creative director, Daniel Lee; but that’s not all we have to look forward to…

London Fashion Week just announced a ‘City Wide Celebration' which means you can take part in a curated programme of unique, free and engaging experiences open to the public with exclusive live music performances, in store events and designer Q&A sessions. See the full schedule for London Fashion Week and the City Wide Celebration here.

Here’s our roundup of six unmissable moments we can expect from the LFW AW23 shows:

Oxfam's Fashion Fighting Poverty 2023

Oxfam is kicking off London Fashion Week on 16th February with a show styled by the legendary Bay Garnett and sponsored by eBay. The fashion show aims to demonstrate that buying second-hand fashion is the most sustainable way to stay stylish. Oxfam hopes to make the show inclusive by using 'personalities' rather than models to walk the catwalk. They have already had successful Fashion Fighting Poverty shows at London Fashion Week and we can't wait to see what Garnett comes up with this year.

Burberry's new look

After unexpectedly leaving Bottega Veneta at the end of 2021, Daniel Lee has replaced Ricardo Tisci as creative head of Burberry. The London fashion house debuted a fresh look at their iconic print in the October 2022 'Night Creatures' campaign which saw dark blue prints incorporated with a classic London look... and their new logo already has the fashion set salivating over what’s next. Lee brought Bottega into the forefront of fashion in the past few years, displaying flattering silhouettes and showing that he wasn't afraid of colour. We can expect to see a fresh take on Burberry's iconic style in his first collection for the company, we can't wait to see it.

Nepo babies

Nepo babies took the fashion world by storm in 2022, and love them or hate them they have cemented their status as 'It girls' in fashion. The term is used to refer to successful people who have famous or influential relatives, and they can be found in every industry we expect to see plenty of them at London Fashion Week. Faces we can expect to see in the FROW at London Fashion Week include Lila Moss, Mia Regan, and Alexa Demie. Fashion influencers in their own right, we're sure we'll be seeing them sitting or strutting down the catwalk at some of the hottest shows.

Thriftcore street style

With a growing pressure being put on the fashion industry to adhere to sustainability, vintage fashion has come to the forefront of street style as thrifting becomes the norm. We can expect to see designers and guests that take note of the rise in pre-loved looks. Thrifting and charity-shopping have become even more commonplace as people look for sustainable ways to stay in style. 2022 was the year of the Y2K reboot, but this year we expect to see more 1990s inspired grunge-inspired looks and perhaps even recycled looks on the runway.

Digital Shows

Since the pandemic, there has been a move to have shows available to the public online. This means you can watch the best of London Fashion Week from the comfort of your own home. Notable shows to watch include On|Off. On 18 February at 9pm, the creative platform will give some of the most talented up and coming designers a spot at the official London Fashion Week to display their work - always good to watch if you're wanting to stay ahead of the trends. Another show that never fails to impress is the London College of Fashion, UAL catwalk. The digital event will show some of the best pieces created at one of the best fashion schools in the world. The show will close the digital London Fashion Week at 12pm on 21 February.
