Royal fashion fanatics have been eagerly anticipating the 2023 EE BAFTAs, giddy to catch a glimpse of what the Princess of Wales has decided to wear for the British film and television's biggest night of the year.

Princess Kate and her husband the Prince of Wales, aka the president of BAFTA since his appointment in 2010, last attended the awards ceremony in 2020. This year the royal couple are expected to view the awards ceremony held at the Royal Festival Hall before meeting category winners and EE’s Rising Star Award nominees.

Princess Kate's three year-long absence left a regal BAFTA red carpet style-shaped hole in our lives, but we're thrilled to confirm that her look was 100% worth the wait.

The royal couple looked elegant on the red carpet

Princess Kate opted for a stunning one-shoulder piece, a white layered gown which flowed elegantly as she walked down the red carpet alongside her husband. The design was cinched in at the waist with a waistband that flattered her silhouette and featured a cascade of drapery over her left shoulder. Showing off her commendable eco credentials, the 41-year-old's choice of gown was actually a repeat wear that she wore previously to the prestigious awards ceremony in 2019. The piece underwent a spot of reworking –  the shoulder previously featured floral detailing.

But the pièce de resistance of the princess' utterly BAFTA-worthy ensemble was undoubtedly her black full-length gloves. Looking like a star of the silver screen, she exuded glamour and paired the royal accessory favourite with a sleek clutch and metallic botanical-inspired statement earrings.

At the 2020 ceremony guests were invited to "dress sustainably"

In 2020, the then-Duchess of Cambridge opted for an elegant white gown by Alexander McQueen. The dress featured gilded floral appliqué on a mesh overlay skirt, short sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. The piece was actually a repeat wear, in keeping with the BAFTA dress code which encouraged guests to "dress sustainably".

Princess Kate first wore the gown to attend an official dinner held by Malaysia’s Head of State in 2012, but she breathed new life into the dress for the BAFTAs by accessorising it with Van Cleef & Arpels' mother of pearl necklace and matching earrings.
